Architectural and Specialist Door Manufacturers’ Association (ASDMA)

ASDMA is the representative organisation for the specialist timber door sector. It was formed in 1990 with initial membership of manufacturers for specialist bespoke and custom-made timber doors, typically to individual and project-specific specifications as a key characteristic of the specialist sector.

Membership of the Association continues to expand, including door companies and door technical experts as well as the leading test and certification bodies in the UK, sealant manufacturers, hardware suppliers, glass companies and service providers. The diversity of membership means ASDMA is uniquely equipped to pull together information on all factors relating to bespoke timber door assemblies.

Prime considerations concern fire resistance and smoke control at ambient temperatures, together with other important functions of doors, for example, security, acoustic performance, ease of use and access, as well as distinctive design features as required by architects and building owners.

A core strand in ASDMA’s DNA remains an emphasis on technical best practice for door assemblies. ASDMA especially supports third-party certification for products, product systems, fabricators, installers and those who carry out maintenance of doors after installation. A great deal of effort has been devoted by the Association to the development of product certification.

ASDMA also seeks to play a full role in the development of British, European and international standards concerning doors and fire safety, in particular, through participation in relevant BSI and CEN committees and other appropriate forums.

Membership and best practice guidance publications can be found on the ASDMA website.
