DCLG releases Approved Document survey results
14 February 2017
DCLG has released a summary of a user survey conducted last year which investigated the usability of Approved Documents B (Fire Safety) and M (Access to and Use of Buildings)to the Building Regulations.
The research showed that the Approved Documents, including AD B and M, are essential in making sure people comply with the Building Regulations and that users value them. However, the it recommends the Documents should be clearer and easier to use.
Noting that they are broadly fit for purpose now, the summary states the Documents will need to change as the construction industry becomes digital.
It makes 6 recommendations including a suggestion that the guidance becomes more prescriptive, making it clear what will comply.
